Florence Uwaeme

The Community Primary School, Mba Community in Etche local government area of Rivers state has been closed down for four years and counting.

The Rivers state Universal Basic Education Board has issued a query to the head teacher of the school after several complaints had been laid by members of the Mba community.

The letter which was signed by Mr. Kabiri George, the director of administration and supplies is dated October 28th 2021. Mr George noted that the head teacher had failed in keeping the school functional.

The head teacher who is yet to respond to Mr. George’s query is said to be committing an offence which is ‘breach of public service as stated in the public service rules 2008.

According to the letter, Mr. George had stated that the Head Teacher should explain in writing within 48 hours of receipt of the query why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

Recall that the Universal Basic Education (UBE) is established as an agency that also has a department to monitor and supervise school under its jurisdiction.

This event has shown that there is either no supervisory policy put in place by the Board or it’s officers have not been allowed to function.
