The Bayelsa State government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on its waterways to curtail sea piracy and other criminal activities in the state.
This was announced on Monday at the Government House, Yenagoa at the end of the State Security Council meeting chaired by the Governor, Douye Diri.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters I, Mr Akpoebi Agberebi, announced that the government has placed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on water transportation, including the prohibition of the use of 200-horsepower engines.
Agberebi noted that there would be permission for emergency movement during the curfew hours of 7 a.m to 6 p.m.
He urged citizens to feel free to report perpetrators to state security on their dedicated phone lines.
Agberebi also said the council resolved that communities whose lands had been acquired by the state government should discontinue any form of protest while noting that communities still parading as landlords have been constituting a nuisance.
He urged them to quit taking laws into their hands and depriving other citizens, freedom of movement.
While welcoming the newly deployed Commissioner of Police to the state, Benjamin Okolo, Governor Diri expressed optimism that by his profile, he would add value to the state in the area of security.
He urged the new police boss to synergise with sister agencies to rid the state of crime and criminals.
