Port Harcourt: Armed Police officer invades naked lady’s room, refuses to leave

A Human Right Advocacy Group, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has petitioned the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday, over the alleged invasion of a woman’s privacy and unlawfully watching her nakedness, by an officer identified as Benjamin, attached to Mile one Diobu, Police Division.

In a petition dated September 6, 2021 and signed by the group National Coordinator, Prince Wiro, it urged CP Eboka Friday to order an investigation into the alleged invasion of one of his personnel, Benjamin into the room of one Miss Ebube at Ogwa street, Mile 1 Diobu Port Harcourt, and threatened to shoot the lady who was stark naked as at the time he invaded her privacy, when asked to leave the room to enable her dress up.

Mr Wiro called for a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served to all the parties involved.

Narrating her ordeal, twenty-year-old Miss Ebube, told our correspondent that about 2pm on Sunday, 5th September, 2021; after having her bath and was in her room stark naked trying to dress up, a man on mufti who turned out to be officer Benjamin stormed her room.

Miss Ebube explained that she and another lady in the room asked officer Benjamin to leave the room but the Officer refused and threatened to shoot both of them if they uttered more words while he stood there and watched her naked body in the guise of searching for her elder brother.

She demanded for justice for the abuse and violation of her human right by Officer Benjamin, who did not respect not regard her woman dignity and the unlawful invasion of her privacy.

Also, Miss Blessing Chukwu who witnessed the incident explained that the Police officer stormed the room asking for miss Ebube’s brother who was not in as at that time.

According to her, instead of leaving the room on seeing Ebube stark naked, he slapped her and threatened to shoot her for asking him to leave the room.

In the meantime, brother to Ebube, Chima Joe in the same petition to the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday accused officer Benjamin of detaining him illegally and extorting twenty thousand naira from him despite not committing any offence.

Joe narrated further that the officer said he was arrested and detained for not separating a fight between two women in the compound while they were fighting.

Mr Joe stated that he was not involved in the fight between the two women in his compound and wondered the basis for his arrest, illegal detention and extortion of twenty thousand naira by officer Benjamin.

As at the time of filing this report, it was gathered is that the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has minuted the case to human rights desk at the Police headquarters, Moscow road for thorough investigation.
