Teyork community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State has lately been experiencing incessant bike theft leading to over five motor-bikes been snatched at gun point by hoodlums.

One of the victims, Monday Nnordee narrated his ordeal to our correspondent as saying that he was ambushed by the gunmen in the evening.

He said, “I was riding my bike when some armed boys ambushed me and robbed me of my bike at gun point.

“That bike is my means of survival and since my bike was robbed from me, I have been devastated as I don’t know what to do to cater for my family.”

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the Speaker of
Bua Teyork Central Assembly said bike theft has been the trend of crime in his community.

According to him, “the boys in my community are jobless and would want to do anything to survive.

“What they do now is to snatch bikes from their victims, sell the bikes and share the proceeds among themselves.

“Since they rob with guns and other dangerous weapons, they are ready to maim or kill anyone who dares to resist them from snatching bikes.

“It is unfortunate that my community has degenerated into this level of lawlessness where people now rob their fellow kinsmen with impunity.”

When contacted for comments, the Bori Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area, Angbashim Bako told our correspondent that the state police hierarchy has warned him not to speak to the press again on any security issue.
