‘We want to be part of fair Nigeria’ – Gov. Umahi

Governor of Ebonyi State, says the South-East is not ready to detach from Nigeria.

He stated this on Thursday during a statehouse media briefing at Aso Villa, Abuja.

Governor Umahi, who is also the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum disclosed that the current situation in the region is ‘a mixture of reality, fake news and war propaganda’.

“In the South-East, we don’t want war, we don’t want to secede, we want to be a part of a fair Nigeria where justice, equity and freedom exist.”

He disclosed that the peaceful agitations happening in the region has been hijacked, which has turned violent.

Governor Umahi added that he believes in dialogue, stating the need to resolve differences.

“I believe in dialogue, and that we can sit down to know and resolve our differences and strengthen our cooperation as a people.”

He also weighed in on the ban on open grazing stating that it is the right decision as the South-east does not have historical grazing reserves.

He enjoined the Federal government to implement ranching and business-led models for livestock management.
