IGP orders maximum security ahead of Eid-El-Fitr celebration

The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Usman Baba has ordered a nationwide deployment of police officers and other operational assets of the Force ahead of the 2021 Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

This order is contained in a press statement released on Wednesday by the Force public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba.

Mba quoted the IGP as stating this in a directive released to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs) and other strategic commanders, ahead of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Baba stated that this is part of efforts by the Force to stabilize security, public safety and making the country a safer place for all citizens.

He also revealed his concern about the challenges being faced by the nation’s security ecosystem, while assuring that these challenges are not insurmountable.

He reassured that the Force under his new policing vision is already implementing new and improved security solutions.

He said the idea is aimed at tackling crimes and neutralizing both existing and emerging security threats in the country.

He also upheld his belief that the nation will soon overcome its security challenges, while noting that the Force is equally up-scaling its collaboration with the military and other law enforcement agencies in both intelligence sharing and other target-oriented missions and operations.

He also enjoined citizens to voluntarily adhere to the protocols of the newly-introduced Phase-4 National Response on COVID-19 Health Protection Regulation.

He directed all the CPs in the states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure full enforcement of the protocols.

He further warned that any police personnel deployed for such enforcement must do so with maximum professionalism while exhibiting compassion and due respect for the fundamental rights of citizens.

The IGP congratulated Muslim faithfuls in the country as they mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, while urging them to incorporate the virtues and teachings of Ramadan in their day-to-day endeavours.

He also urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of obedience to the laws of the land and the pursuit of common good.
