Rivers youths set to give intelligence to security agencies as hoodlums keep killing soldiers, police

Youths of Kalabari ethnic nationality in Rivers State have written to the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, the Rivers State Police Command, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and others to assist them in securing the state.

The letter which dated May 5, 2021 was signed by the Chairman, Ijaw Youth Council of Kalabari Clan, Ibinabo Omoni Jack and Secretary, Tamunosaki DavidWest.

Upon the receipt of the letter by our correspondent, the clan chairman hinted that the security agencies have expressed readiness to work with the youths.

Jack said the move by the youths was sequel to the killings of security personnel by unknown gunmen in Ikwerre, Abua/Odua and Emohua Local Government Areas of the state.

The letter was quoted in part as saying that, “the IYC is taking a proactive step to wade off attacks and prevent the resurgence of violence in Kalabari Kingdom.

“In performing this selfless duty, the IYC will work closely with your command and furnish you with timely and credible information that will lead to the improvement of security in our kingdom.

Beside the above, our team will:
a) Provide routine patrol and surveillance along the Ogbakiri-Emohua-Degema roads in conjunction with youths from Ogbakiri and Emohua.

b) Provide routine patrol and surveillance on the waterways in the three local government areas of Kalabari kingdom.

c) Work with security agencies toward ensuring early response to threats, attacks and other distress calls.

The letter added that members of the security and surveillance team shall perform in a modest manner without molesting innocent citizens.
