The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Rivers State, has warned that Petroleum Marketer and Owners of filling stations against selling above the approved fuel pump price of one hundred and sixty-two (162) to one hundred and sixty-five (165) naira will be shut down.

Zonal Operational Controller Port Harcourt Zone Office, Bassey Nkanga, who issued the warning in an interview with our correspondent, said the Department has been directed to seal any filling stations that fail to reverse to the approved lower and upper range pump price.

He reiterated that there is no increase in fuel pump price, as the purported increase to 212 naira per litre has been refuted, noting that DPR has intensified surveillance to ensure compliance of all filling stations in the state.

“There is no price increase, the directive has been given and we have to take drastic action on it, from what we saw today as we went round on surveillance, lots of Petrol stations have already reversed, those that reversed their pumps in our presence were shut down. We want to ensure that no filling station sells above the range price.

“We have intensified surveillance activities, our team will be out on daily basis to ensure compliance, we also urged Marketers in particular Rivers State. Though they have been doing well, they should not for whatever reason go against government stipulations which is 162 to 165 naira per liter.”

Nkanga urged the public to report any filling stations that still sell fuel above the approved pump price.

“I want to solicit the help of the public to be very specific and report any filling station selling above the range pump price, any station that is not selling right where the pump is not dispensing efficiently or any station selling adulterated Petroleum product, they should feel free to contact the Department of Petroleum Resources, we will respond to that immediately.

“We assure the public that what we have been doing, we will continue to do it”
