Residents lament as only one NIN center exists in Oyigbo

Lorine Emenike

There is only one functional computer at the only National Identity Number registration centre in Oyibo local government area of Rivers State.

Our correspondent who visited the centre reports that the Oyibo registration centre which is in the premises of a Catholic church serves applicants in the entire Oyibo including Afam and Komkom.

Some of the NIN applicants said that the process has been slow.

An applicant said: “In the whole Oyibo local government area, they’re just having just one centre alone, everybody here in Oyibo even people from the express come to this only one centre to enrol and just one system alone, very slow, very stressful and very hectic. I was doing the registration but their printer just spoilt just to get my paper, I have been here since, its only one computer and one printer here serving the entire Oyibo”, she said.

“I am worried I don’t know how I can get my own.

Another pregnant applicant said: “Since December, getting to a month now, and the entire system process is just annoying, I can’t believe that it is only one system that has been given to the only centre even as over one million of people come here to enrol.

” There is no other place, we come down here every day, wasting money to come here just to get the NIN”

They, however, called for more registration centres to be created in Oyibo.

“If it is possible, they should bring more centres, they will do better to bring more centres, if it is possible they do it in units, in Oyibo we have about ten units. If they can organize for two units to have one centre, it will be a lot easier for us here at Oyibo to register.

“They are trying but if they can get at least extra systems to assist them, the process will be faster and easier for us.
