The President-General of Agbakor Ikwerre, Prof. Emenike Wami has louded the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for the proactive measures he took in containing the spread of corona virus in the state.

Profesoor Wami while playing host to members Iwhuruonha Journalist Forum (IJF), called on government, Ikwerre sons and daughters as well as friends of the Ikwerre nationality to join hands in lifting the face of Obiri Ikwerre hall which was defaced as a result of the flyover construction by the Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s administration.

Prof. Wami said “You will agree with me that covid-19 took the world by surprise and by storm. And in Nigeria, Governor Wike was one of the governors that took the necessary steps to contain the spread of the dreaded virus in his state.

“He was one of the governors who took decisive steps. I commend him in the fight against covid-19, and thank God for the proactive steps he took which had made it possible for us to have recorded low infection rate”

He noted that appeals have been made to stakeholders, to redeem the image of Obiri Ikwerre hall, which he said is not only a strategic hall but a structure that should also command respect in Ikwerre land.

He urged people of goodwill, especially Ikwerre sons and daughters to live up to expectation in making sure that the site is a befitting.

Furthermore, he applauded members of IJF, for thinking it wise to set up the organization (Iwheruona Journalist Forum) noting that journalist are image makers.

He admonished members of IJF to use their good positions in projecting the good image of Ikwerre land and its people.

According to him, “I encourage you to keep the flag flying, know your aims and objectives. The idea is that you must project Ikwerre to the world, let them know that we are very hospitable people, very accommodating in every sense of it, and will ever make wonderful contributions towards the wellbeing of this nation. So Ikwerre must always stand out whereever we are.

“So stories about Ikwerre should be taken seriously and any that concerns us should be adequately accommodated, adequately evaluated and people should avoid rushing into conclusions that may not be true, they should investigate, journalists are there to unearth everything, tell the truth to the world”
