Farmers to partner vigilantes over insecurity in Rivers

By Brave Dickson

As insecurity continues to linger in some parts of Rivers State, farmers in the state have come up with partnership plan that will help protect their lives and property.

This partnership with the local vigilante groups in their respective local government areas is coming at a time of incessant attacks on farmers by bandits.

Report has it that in some remote communities in the state, farmers are being robbed, maimed and molested almost on daily basis during farming.

Revealing their partnership plan to our correspondent, the National President, Association of Commercial Farmers and Agro Allied Producers of Nigeria, Engr Fidelis Amadi said it is time for farmers to stop relying on government security agents and start doing what will help secure their own lives and property

According to him: “We want farmers to liaise with the local vigilante groups in their areas to help protect their lives and property during times of insecurity.

“We will also engage these vigilantes to always be around to secure our crops.

“Another thing we will be doing too is what I called a kind of cluster farming.

“It means farming together in order to be able to provide security for themselves.

“All these measures will make farmers to comfortably go about their farming business without fear of being attacked.”
