Rivers APC: Court ruling offers opportunity for genuine reconciliation – Igo Aguma

Justice George Omereji of Rivers State High Court Port Harcourt has declared Igo Aguma as the authentic Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressive Congress Rivers State.

Justice Omereji granted all the relieves sort by Igo Aguma, while ruling that the caretaker Committee set up in 2019 by the APC National leadership is ultra vires, null and void.

Justice Omereji ruled that APC National leadership was not supposed to have constituted a new Caretaker Committee, as there was an already existing Caretaker Committee with twenty-seven statutory members, which Igo Aguma is to lead them as APC Chairman.

Recall that Igo Aguma had approached the court, seeking the court to nullify the five man caretaker Committee constituted by the National leadership of APC party, stop party Congresses and should declare him as the authentic leader of the party.

Echezona Etiaba, Counsel to Igo Aguma, who spoke to our correspondent Tina Stephen, commended the court, while describing the judgement as reinstatement of the true position of the law.

Also speaking, Emenike Ebete, Counsel to APC, said Igo Aguma has not shown any right for him to lead the statutory members as Chairman, adding that the Party will contest the judgement in appeal court.

On his part, Igo Aguma, said the judgement offers an opportunity for genuine reconciliation and peace and to genuinely imbibe democratic tenets and values of the party’s constitution.
