Breaking: NCDC activates Rivers State covid-19 test centre

University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, has installed its second Polymerase Chain Reaction PCR machine for testing of COVID 19 case in the state.

Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Henry Ugboma, who made this known while unveiling the equipment at the newly commissioned Center for COVID 19 testing, isolation and treatment, said the hospital is fully prepared for the fight against Corona virus in the state.

According to him, the hospital will continue in its stride to maintain quality health care services to the people of Rivers, while urging residents of the state to visit the Center should there be any suspected COVID 19 case.

“The hospital now have two Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing machine, one given by the Federal Government in Conjunction with NCDC and Shell, and also an upgrade done by the same team sent for installation on an existing one owned by the hospital, making it two.

“The Center which is NCDC approved is the first of its kind in Rivers State and has the capacity to test, isolate and treat cases of Covid-19.

“The hospital will continue in its stride to maintain its status as one of the foremost health institutions and citadels of training and excellence in the country.

“It is my joy that residents of Rivers State and its environs can benefit from the privilege of having the center located in the hospital”

The Chief Medical Director however assured residents of the availability of qualified personnel in the hospital to man the center.

Professor Ugboma further reiterated that the institution have trained many great medical doctors and health workers and it is still training at the moment.

He also advice residents to adhere to every medical advice and stick to set down laws of the state government, as all directives is centered in making Rivers state a Covid-19 free state.
