Uniport joins ASUU strike

Lecturers in the University of Port Harcourt have joined the nationwide warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU

The decision was reached during a congress at the union’s secretariat.

In a closed-door meeting, lecturers at the University of Port Harcourt were briefed on what was expected of them in the next two weeks.

After the meeting, Branch Chairman of the Union disclosed that members had agreed to heed the call of their national leadership to down tools.

ASUU directed its members in the institution to boycott all academic and official duties on campus for the duration of the strike.

The industrial action takes full effect in the University three days after it was declared.

Explaining why ASUU said it needed time to communicate the decision to its chapter members and have them deliberate on the matter.
