Common Sense 37 (Protest Edition)

Baron Roy

Whichever way one might want to view the 1999 Constitution, one would come off with a sense of blind anger and deep-seated hate at whomever had foisted that document meant for jungle animals on us all. You simply couldn’t study that Constitution, then compare it with that of a sane country, and not have the feeling of having been serially raped!

In the first instance, that Constitution is a Northern document; it was so written to ensure the legal dominance of the polity by the Military-Caliphate Cabal; that document exists just to promote the interests of the 12 Sharia States and their military collaborators. It is a document that subjugates the South to the rulership of the North. No doubt about that! But that’s not even the worst attribute of that demonic Book of Lucifer!

That evil document completely strips the citizens of any rights whatsoever! Whether you like it or not, the federal government owns all citizens and all within the confines of Nigeria…lock, stock and barrel! The citizen is the so utterly stripped of all rights and reasons that he would have been better off not existing. This has been so proved with the ease of impunity of Abuja whereby neither the citizens nor the courts could even whimper! The Constitution is such a dreadful and distasteful document that shocks us all into silence!

So that document came into force in 1999. The PDP and other parties took one look at the document and panicked! But their caliphate masters asked them to calm down and proposed a solution to the obviously northo-centric document. How was it resolved?

They started this policy of North/South arrangements within each political party to “balance” federal character. This now metamorphosed into some alien stuff like “rotational presidency”. Then this was given some legitimacy with the Federal Character Commission (a now discredited and hopeless entity as proved by APC). With the 1999 Constitution, the North/South Dichotomy of the Nigerian state came into full force! No document in the history of this unfortunate place called Nigeria, has been as divisive as the 1999 Constitution!

With the establishment of the Divisive Constitution, the majority of Nigerians and virtually all politicians were programmed to think North or South! In fact, almost all party and federal policies are aimed at satisfying the North/South spirit of the Constitution! The first casualty of this Constitution was Peace, the next was Truth. Afterwards, it was a free fall. All good things that might have been, did not be but fresh ones hitherto unknown, rose with a vengeance! How many of us would tie the menace of Fulani and Boko Haram Terrorists to the 1999 Constitution? But they are all products of the Constitution; direct products at that! And worse are brewing!

With the North/South policy of virtually two incongruous countries pretending to be One Nigeria, elections are carried out to satisfy the two countries. Thus, when a presidential candidate is chosen from Arewa Republic, his vice shall be from the Southern Republic! Despite the fact that Nigeria is officially a ‘United country’, she’s actually 2 very distinct countries! Lord Lugard could testify to this!

Tonight, the two VPs were of the Southern Republic. And there was almost a universal agreement that these two ought to have been president and vice president (assuming the presidential system would suffice…it’s a silly system though). Yes, one was adjudged to have outdone the other; the other despite his obvious misfortune of having to defend the indefensible, was still seen as of a sound mind. The overall verdict was that their principals are far less mentally equipped to be the Supremo. But we’ve got a Constitution that they must! If we had a Southern Nigeria Republic or a parliamentary system, these two gentlemen could complement one another for the greater good. But as things stand, one moron must be in the equation for a constitutionally induced consideration! See why we say that Constitution was written by imbeciles with criminal intent?

From the foregoing, it’s obvious that the 1999 Constitution prevents us from ever presenting our 1st Eleven ever! We are compelled to present our dunces as president and the brainiac to share stipends in the market places!

If there was anything the vice presidential debate tonight revealed, it showed that for this country to ever make any meaningful progress, the current obnoxious Constitution must be discarded! The robust argument and the dependence on the people/audience to deliver the verdict shows that there parliamentary system is best suited for this country. We really do NOT need a president or a vice but a robust parliament where arguments are marshalled and agreements on how to govern are reached as a compromise! Nor the absolute say of a ruler whom might just be an intellectual ant as we are often saddled with!

The debates are a painful cry for the parliamentary system! That I shall support! Not and never the current sham!

We need to have regionalism and parliamentary democracy as a matter of urgency. We must #restructureOrBurst!
