The President was elected to the position of the Chairman of ECOWAS (Economic of West African State) on Tuesday during the 53rd session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Lome, the Togolese capital.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, although the President did not put himself up for the post, he promised to work to take ECOWAS “to greater heights”.

“I am truly humbled and pledge to serve and work with all of you to deliver on peace, security, good governance and socio-economic development of the sub-region,” the President was quoted as saying.
