Uche Secondus, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a warning that the unrestrained actions of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), could potentially derail Nigeria’s democratic process.

Secondus expressed his concerns while reacting to the recent local government elections in Rivers State, which saw violence and unrest, allegedly spurred by Wike and his supporters.

According to Secondus, the behavior of the former Rivers State governor both before and after the elections represents a significant threat to democracy in the country.

Secondus emphasized that the federal government should take heed of the dangers posed by Wike, stating, “It’s only in this country and under the watch of a party like APC that one person will be a member of two political parties and use them to cause nuisance in the society.”

He urged President Bola Tinubu to recognize Wike’s actions for what they truly are—an attempt to destabilize the nation’s democratic fabric. Comparing Wike to “an unruly bull in a China shop,” Secondus warned that unless action is taken, Wike’s ambitions could wreak havoc on the country’s democratic institutions.

Secondus called on Tinubu to work closely with the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to safeguard these resources and curb Wike’s influence.

He applauded the people of Rivers State for their courage during the recent elections, acknowledging their resistance to intimidation from Wike and his allies.

Secondus also commended Governor Fubara for standing firm in the face of pressure and providing leadership during the elections, stating that the governor’s actions were crucial in upholding democratic values.

As a final warning, Secondus noted that Nigeria already exhibits many signs of a failing democracy and urged the federal government to carefully manage anti-democratic elements like Wike to prevent further erosion of the nation’s political stability.
