Anita Asuoha, better known by her stage name Real Warri Pikin, recently opened up about a dark chapter in her life when she attempted suicide due to overwhelming financial difficulties.
In a heartfelt post, shared to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, the comedienne disclosed that after multiple failed attempts to overcome the financial hardship, she felt utterly defeated and tried to take her own life in June 2018.
Fortunately, a timely visit from a family member intervened and saved her life at the crucial moment.
The popular Nigerian comedienne took to her Instagram page to recount the emotional and financial burden she faced, leading her to contemplate ending her life.
Asuoha revealed that the family’s financial crisis began when her husband, inspired by a motivational speaker, ventured into several businesses in a bid to achieve financial success. However, instead of the success they hoped for, the ventures left the family with a crippling N22 million debt.

“I tried suicide so you don’t have to,” she shared. “In 2018, June 6, 3 pm to be precise, I attempted suicide. I gave up on life because the burden was too much. Life just dey hit me left right and center, life dey turn me round like barber chair. And I felt like the only way to escape is to end the pain.”
While reflecting on her journey, Asuoha emphasized that life has its ups and downs and encouraged her followers not to view suicide as a solution when faced with hardship. She advised, “Suicide is making a permanent decision to a temporary problem. And most of all, hold on to God and do the one your power reach.”
The comedienne revealed that her battle with depression played a major and important role in her comedy career. She explained that despite having performed in school, she didn’t pursue comedy seriously until depression pushed her to find an outlet.
“I discovered my comedy talent through depression. In school, I used to dance professionally, host events, and do stand-up comedy. However, I didn’t take it seriously. In 2018, I fell into depression.
“I didn’t have money, and a lot of things went wrong. I just said to myself, ‘Why not start making videos to motivate and inspire people in a funny way?’ And here I am today,” Asuoha explained in a 2019 interview.
Real Warri Pikin’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of life, despite challenges and struggles, as she urges people not to succumb to the pressures that lead to suicide.
