President Bola Tinubu on Friday inaugurated a series of infrastructure projects in Bayelsa State as part of efforts to boost urban development and improve connectivity within the state capital, Yenagoa.
One of the major highlights of the visit was the commissioning of the 2.9-kilometre dual carriageway, known as New Yenagoa City Road One, which links the Airport Road.
The project forms part of Governor Douye Diri’s urban renewal agenda aimed at opening up the state capital and easing movement within key corridors.
The President performed the commissioning ceremony in the presence of several dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, as well as Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe.
Governors from across the Niger Delta region were also in attendance, joining Governor Diri in receiving the President.

The newly completed road is expected to improve traffic flow, strengthen access to the airport axis, and stimulate economic activities by enhancing mobility and encouraging investment in the area.
The project is one of several developments under the Diri administration’s infrastructure drive, which seeks to reposition Bayelsa State for broader economic growth and urban transformation.
Meanwhile, the state government declared Friday a work-free day to allow residents and workers to participate in the commissioning activities.
Ahead of the event, residents of the Gbarain/Ekpetiama clan in Yenagoa Local Government Area trooped out in large numbers, singing and dancing in celebration of the completed project linking the Airport/Tombia/Amassoma road corridor, while awaiting the President’s arrival.
