Troops Nab 20 Drug Suspects in Yenagoa, Neutralise Six IEDs in South-East

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and some troops of Operation Delta Safe, have arrested 20 suspected drug peddlers during a coordinated operation in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The arrests were part of a broader crackdown on criminal networks across the South-south region. During the operation, security operatives recovered various illicit substances believed to be linked to drug trafficking activities.

In a separate development, troops recorded significant gains in the South-east, where Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams discovered and safely defused six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along key routes in Imo State.

The operation also led to the neutralisation of two suspected bomb specialists who were reportedly attempting to plant explosives.

Elsewhere in the South-south, troops uncovered an illegal oil bunkering site in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, recovering tankers, barges, and large quantities of suspected illegally refined petroleum products.

Additional anti-drug raids carried out in Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states led to more arrests and seizures of hard drugs, while troops dismantled an illegal refining site in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, confiscating about 1,500 litres of refined products.

According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military remains committed to intensifying joint operations to curb criminal activities, protect critical infrastructure, and restore peace across affected regions.
