The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Rivers State Command, has arrested 30 suspected drug dealers, including three females, within four months as part of intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking in the state.
State Commander Bature Dawa disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dagogo Wokoma, in Port Harcourt.
According to Dawa, the arrests were made between December 2025 and March 2026, during which approximately 14.83 kilograms of illicit drugs were also seized. He added that the command secured 12 convictions within the same period, while 16 new cases are currently under investigation.
“We have intensified operations through our Drug Demand Reduction and Drug Supply Control units to ensure offenders are brought to justice,” Dawa said.
The NDLEA boss further urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children, warning that young people remain vulnerable to drug abuse. He also called on hotel owners and managers to prevent their facilities from being used for drug-related activities.

As part of preventive measures, Dawa advocated the introduction of drug integrity tests in schools and within the National Youth Service Corps scheme to discourage substance abuse among youths.
Responding, the Rivers State Government commended the agency’s efforts in maintaining security and public safety. Wokoma, speaking on behalf of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, praised the collaboration among federal agencies in promoting peace and stability across the state.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, emphasizing that respect for the rule of law is essential for sustainable development.
“Our Governor is committed to peace, progress, and prosperity in Rivers State. I encourage all residents, especially young people, to stay away from drugs, crime, and reckless behaviour,” Wokoma stated.
In a related development, during a separate visit by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sector Commander Inyang Umoh commended the state government for its continued support, while authorities urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations for safer roads.
