The Chairman of Emohua local government area in Rivers State, Dr Chidi Lloyd has challenged the protesters who carried different placards to the gates of Rivers State Government House over unpaid salaries to present evidence of their successful verification as staff of Emohua local government council.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategic Communication, Mr. Bright Jossy – Elendu on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Dr Lloyd said his administration is not owing any verified staff of the local government council and prompt payment of salaries to genuine staff will continue to form part of the priorities of his administration.
While noting that payment of salaries can only be made to individuals verified to be staff of the council, Dr. Lloyd stressed that his administration will not allow non staff of the council to continue to syphon the commonwealth of the people, under any guise.
According to the statement, the Emohua council boss challenged the protesters to show proof of their confirmation as staff of Emohua local government council from the staff biometric verification exercise conducted by the Rivers State government under the supervision of the local government service commission, to justify their claim.
Dr Lloyd commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for standing on the side of transparency and due process by approving the statewide biometric verification exercise to establish the nominal roll of the 23 local government councils in the state, with a view to ending corruption in the local government system.
He noted that the statewide verification exercise organized by the state government had already vindicated his administration’s war against corruption, as individuals with dual employment continued to troop into his office on a daily basis to tender their resignation from the local government council, in order to retain their other employment with state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
According to the statement, Dr Chidi Lloyd berated the actions of a few persons who are still determined to defraud the payroll of different government ministries, departments and agencies using different account information without regard for due process.
Dr. Lloyd urged members of the public to disregard claims of non payment of salaries by individuals who ordinarily should be facing prosecution for earning salaries from the commonwealth of the people without undergoing the established employment procedures.
