The police have arrested a man accused of killing his elder brother in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State, bringing to an end nearly two weeks of intense search operations.
The suspect, identified as Nwalozie Chiwendu, was apprehended on Tuesday in Owerrinta, where he had allegedly taken refuge after fleeing the scene of the incident, says The Guardian report.
Chiwendu as earlier reported by TPCN is accused of fatally attacking his elder brother, Chidiebere Isaiah, during a heated altercation on 12 February 2026 in Ofeh community, Eberi, within Omuma LGA.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into violence, leaving the victim dead and sparking outrage among residents of the quiet agrarian settlement.
The matter was initially reported at the Eberi Division under the Oyigbo Area Command, prompting an immediate investigation and a manhunt for the suspect, who had reportedly gone into hiding.
Security sources said intelligence gathering and coordinated tracking efforts eventually led operatives to Abia State, where the suspect was arrested without incident.
Following his arrest, he was transferred to the Rivers State Police Command for further investigation. Authorities are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation and establish a possible motive.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to release an official statement on the case.
Residents of the community described the incident as tragic and unprecedented, noting that such violence within a family has rarely been witnessed in the area.
