Bayelsa Chief Judge Swears In Deputy Governor

The Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, has sworn in Peter Akpe as the state’s Deputy Governor.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Bayelsa State Executive Council chamber in Yenagoa, marking the start of Akpe’s tenure to complete the remaining two years of Governor Douye Diri’s administration.

The Port City News (TCPN) had earlier reported that Akpe was cleared by the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Alongside Akpe, four commissioners and 14 permanent secretaries were also sworn into office.

During the ceremony, Governor Diri prayed for the repose of the late Deputy Governor, who was recently laid to rest, and urged Akpe to uphold the solemn Oath of Office, discharging his duties with the fear of God.

He thanked the state and key stakeholders for their cooperation during the period of mourning for the former Deputy Governor. Diri added that he submitted Akpe’s name to the Assembly after prayerfully seeking God’s guidance, choosing him for his competency, character, and godliness. He also commended the Assembly for its swift consideration and approval.

Assuring his full support, Diri expressed confidence that Akpe would serve as a reliable partner in fulfilling the promises made to the people of Bayelsa.

The governor called for unity and collective prayer, urging the new Deputy Governor to serve with honour and empathy for the betterment of the state, noting that the words he speaks reflect the trust placed in him by the citizens.
