Wike Breaks Silence After Meeting With Tinubu, Fubara

Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reacted barely 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu brokered peace between him and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The Port City (TCPN) reported that the reconciliation followed a late-night consultative meeting with key stakeholders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike confirmed that the closed-door meeting was an intervention aimed at resolving the prolonged political crisis between him and Fubara.

He disclosed that the reconciliation marked the second time President Tinubu had stepped in to mediate the dispute.

Wike said he believed the latest intervention would be the last, expressing confidence that the lingering discord had finally been resolved. According to him, Nigerians should no longer expect to hear about such conflicts between him and the governor.

He explained that the President intervened as a father figure to ensure peace and stability in Rivers State, adding that he had directed members of the State House of Assembly to respect and comply with Tinubu’s decisions.

Although Wike declined to disclose details of the meeting or the agreements reached, he expressed optimism that Governor Fubara and the lawmakers would adhere to the terms of the resolution. He also emphasised that the governor would play his part in ensuring lasting peace in the state.

TPCN previously reported that Wike, who played a key role in Fubara’s emergence as governor in 2023, later fell out with him over the control of political structures in the oil-rich state.

The crisis prompted Tinubu to declare emergency rule in Rivers State in 2025, leading to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months.
