Rivers State has once again proven its leadership in healthcare, and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu has lauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State Task Force on Primary Health Care for the achievement.
The team recently clinched the South-South Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge award and secured second place nationally.
Addressing members of the task force during the 2025 fourth-quarter meeting on Monday at Government House, Port Harcourt, Prof. Odu described the feat as “remarkable” and a reflection of the dedication, resilience, and teamwork that have become the hallmark of Rivers State’s health sector.

“Frankly, I had almost lost hope. I felt that if we didn’t get it, so be it. Even the Commissioner was somewhat sceptical. But God enabled you to bridge the gaps, outperform other states, and keep Rivers on top,” she said, urging the team to protect the achievement and set their sights on becoming number one nationally.
The Deputy Governor also praised the task force’s innovative use of telemedicine, showcased during the Ahoada commissioning, calling it a milestone in healthcare service delivery.
Prof. Odu encouraged the team to continue sustaining excellence across both primary and secondary healthcare, reminding them that their efforts are deeply appreciated by the state government and the people of Rivers.
