Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Tuesday reacted after two senators from the state defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Rivers East and Senator Barinada Mpigi, Rivers South-East left the PDP.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Boniface Onyedi, Fubara described the decision as courageous, principled, and forward-looking.
He said the defection demonstrated the lawmakers’ commitment to the collective progress of Rivers State and Nigeria. Commending the senators, the governor stressed that their move went beyond mere political realignment.
He described the development as a strong validation of his earlier decision to join the APC and said it signaled the emergence of a united and strategic political front aimed at fully integrating Rivers State into the centre of national governance.
Fubara said the development positioned the state to maximise opportunities for accelerated growth, inclusive development, and long-term sustainability.

According to him, the growing coalition reflected the visible transformation taking place under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and aligned fully with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The governor expressed confidence that the expanding support base in Rivers State would contribute significantly to the success of the President’s ongoing reforms.
While reaffirming his resolve to ensure that Tinubu emerged victorious in the 2027 general elections, Fubara said the state’s support would be decisive.
He called on residents to join the APC in ushering in a new era of progressive politics, peace, stability, and unprecedented prosperity.
