How Political Instability Hindered Good Governance in Rivers — Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Saturday said political instability and institutional constraints over the past 23 months had negatively impacted his administration.

He made the remarks in Bonny Local Government Area during a reception organised in his honour by the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XI, in collaboration with the Bonny Council of Chiefs.

Fubara visited Bonny to witness the Iria Ceremony of Her Royal Highness Queen Paula Tamunoipirinye Pepple. The ceremony was held at Ikuba Square.

Addressing traditional rulers, chiefs, and other key stakeholders at the event, the governor said it was never his intention to deny the people the dividends of good governance. He disclosed that nearly two years of his administration had been marked by turbulence.

“It became worse when the very instruments meant to support effective governance were the ones creating difficulties,” he said.

The governor assured the monarch and the people of Bonny that his administration remained committed to delivering the development projects already presented to the state government.

He added that Bonny required more than infrastructure, stressing the need for economic initiatives to stimulate commerce, create jobs, and stabilise livelihoods, particularly after decades of limited government presence.

Speaking earlier, King Pepple III said the reception was organised to maximise the governor’s visit for the Iria Ceremony.

He urged Governor Fubara to follow up on the concerns and requests submitted by the Bonny Council of Chiefs.
