The Bayelsa State Government has expressed its commitment to supporting the Kumbowei National Association’s (KNA) efforts to improve education and healthcare delivery in the state.
Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo said this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the KNA delegation to Government House, Yenagoa.
He described the initiatives of the socio-cultural group as vital in complementing government efforts to enhance the quality of life for residents.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo noted that while government’s primary responsibility is the protection of lives and property, the administration of Governor Douye Diri remains committed to expanding educational opportunities and strengthening health services across Bayelsa.
He further emphasised that collaboration with credible organizations is essential, as government alone cannot meet all socio-economic needs.
He praised the KNA for its plans to establish an Educational Scholarship Trust Fund and conduct Community Health Outreach programs, assuring the group of full government support.
The Deputy Governor also encouraged the association to submit detailed plans for its 2025 Kumbowei Heritage and Development Summit and suggested rotating future summit locations among member communities to foster cultural unity.
National President of the KNA, Prof. Peter Ayunku, explained that the visit aimed to brief the Deputy Governor on the association’s objectives and seek support for the forthcoming summit, which will highlight the Kumbowei people’s rich cultural heritage and provide a platform for mentorship and intergenerational dialogue.
Prof. Ayunku, who lectures at the Niger Delta University, commended the state government for partnering with community-driven organizations, noting that such collaborations have promoted peace, economic empowerment, and cultural preservation.
The delegation included notable figures such as the Commissioner for Special Duties (Bayelsa West), Mr. Michael Magbisa; Chairman of Sagbama Rural Development Authority, Chief Fred Dabirilagha; and traditional leaders including HRH Ojo Magbisa of Sagbama Town and HRH Godbless Fetonbofa of Tungbabiri Community.
