CCRW Organises Over 100 Free Surgeries In Port Harcourt

More than one hundred residents have already undergone life-changing surgeries in the Christ Compassion to the Rural World (CCRW) free medical outreach, with the programme expected to touch over 1,200 lives by its conclusion.

The surgical interventions including fibroid removals, hernia repairs, goitre excisions, and other critical procedures are being carried out in several government hospitals across Rivers State, such as Professor Kelsey Harrison Memorial Hospital and Eleme General Hospital.

Three beneficiaries Mrs. Glory Smith, Deborah Abali, and Goodness Nonso, shared their relief with Radio Nigeria, explaining that the cost of private hospital surgeries, often running into hundreds of thousands of naira, had forced them to live in constant pain for years.

“I have been carrying this hernia for over seven years because I couldn’t afford the operation,” said Deborah Abali. “Today, CCRW has given me back my life for free.”

At Professor Kelsey Harrison Memorial Hospital alone, over 100 successful surgeries have been recorded in just a few days. Dr. Adeyemo Pius, speaking on behalf of lead surgeon Dr. Ajai Lekan, revealed that the initial target of 200 operations at the facility will be exceeded well before the outreach’s scheduled end on Friday, November 28, 2025.

“The turnout has been overwhelming,” he noted. “People are coming from far and near because they know this opportunity may never come again.”

This medical outreach is the flagship event for CCRW’s week-long Selfless Love Crusade, which officially kicked off at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Igwuruta.

Organisers say the initiative underscores the ministry’s commitment to delivering both physical healing and spiritual hope to underserved communities across Nigeria.
