Rivers United Drawn In Champions League Group A

The draw for the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2025/26 has been announced.

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) made the announcement on Monday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Rivers United, participating in the tournament for the first time, were drawn into Group A, where they will face reigning champions Pyramids SC, alongside RS Berkane and Power Dynamos.

The Nigerian side earned their place in the competition after defeating Black Bulls of Mozambique 3–1 on aggregate, a victory that secured their spot among Africa’s elite clubs.

The team’s qualification was guided by coach Finidi George, whose leadership has brought renewed optimism to the squad.

While George and his players remain confident, overcoming Pyramids SC—the Egyptian side that clinched their first-ever CAF Champions League title last season—will be a formidable challenge.

Rivers United’s qualification represents not only a triumph for the club but also a moment of pride for Nigerian football.

RS Berkane.of Morocco, also drawn in Group A, bring experience and consistency to the competition despite not yet claiming the title. Zambia’s Power Dynamos, meanwhile, carry a rich history, having reached the quarter-finals in the 1985 edition of the tournament.

By participating, Rivers United are set to play at least six continental matches, keeping alive their dream of becoming only the second Nigerian club, after the legendary Enyimba, to lift the coveted trophy—achieved by Enyimba in 2003 and 2004.

With this opportunity, Rivers United aims to make a lasting impact in the competition and inspire the next generation of Nigerian footballers.

In Group B, the teams drawn together are Al Ahly SC, Young Africans, AS FAR Rabat, and JS Kabylie.

Group C features Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Hilal Club, MC Alger, and FC St Eloi Lupopo.

Meanwhile, Group D comprises Esperance de Tunis, Simba SC, Petro Atletico, and Stade Malien.
