Thirteen-month-old Baby Miracle has finally been reunited with his father, Mr. Ugochukwu Onyenehigo, and grandmother after the Rivers State Ministry of Health intervened to resolve a hospital dispute that led to a case of juvenile abandonment.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze C. Oreh, the reunion followed an amicable settlement between Mr. Onyenehigo and the hospital, facilitated through the family court.

The hospital had earlier filed a case on humanitarian grounds after the baby was left in its care due to unpaid medical bills.

Mr. Onyenehigo, a generator-repair technician, cited financial difficulties in settling the outstanding charges.

Although both parties agreed on a repayment plan, the Ministry of Health has now offset the remaining balance to ease the family’s burden. The hospital has been directed to submit a full report of all outstanding bills to the Ministry by Monday, November 3, 2025.

During a mini sendforth event organized by the hospital, an emotional Mr. Onyenehigo expressed gratitude for the government’s intervention and the public’s concern for his son.

Dr. Oreh extended appreciation to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his support and to members of the public who helped draw attention to the case. “Thankfully, the family issues have been resolved and Baby Miracle is now being cared for in his home environment,” she said.
