The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has invited members of the Council of State and the Police Council to a hybrid strategic meeting to address critical national security and policing issues.
The high-level gathering is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Council Chambers within the Aso Villa, Abuja.
According to a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the SGF, the meeting aims to deliberate on matters of national importance, with a specific focus on strengthening peace and stability across the country.
Emanso Okop Umobong, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, was quoted as explaining that the session is designed to foster collaboration among key stakeholders to effectively address the nation’s pressing security challenges.
The strategic meetings will be held sequentially: the Council of State will convene at 1:00 pm, immediately followed by the Police Council meeting at 2:00 pm.

Members have the option to participate either physically at the venue or virtually to ensure maximum engagement.
This convocation, which underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, comes amid a continuous national focus on tackling insecurity.
The Council of State is a key constitutional body in Nigeria, comprising the President, Vice President, all former Presidents and Heads of State, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and all State Governors, among others.
The Police Council oversees the general supervision of the Nigeria Police Force.
