SFH Equips Girls With Vital Health Knowledge

The Society for Family Health (SFH) has concluded the first phase of its Adolescent 360 Health and Economic Empowerment Project (A360-HEEP), a program designed to equip adolescent girls with essential health knowledge and economic skills.

The initiative targeted young girls in underserved communities, combined mental health awareness with vocational training in areas such as small chops preparation, yoghurt making, skincare production, and soap making.

“Adolescence is a defining stage in life, and for many young girls, access to the right knowledge, confidence, and skills can mean the difference between missed opportunities and a brighter future.”

Over 160 adolescent girls benefited from the program, gaining practical skills to boost their self-reliance and confidence.

The training sessions were conducted in various locations, including Emuoha Local Government Area, where participants learned how to make small chops, and other areas where they acquired skills in fruit yoghurt preparation, skincare products, and liquid soap production.

According to SFH, the program aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and opportunity, enabling participants to safeguard their well-being while generating income. Beneficiaries of the program have expressed their excitement and gratitude for the skills acquired.

A participant from Rumuji, 17-year-old Grace, said, “Today I learned how to care for my mind and how to make small chops that I can even sell. It makes me feel hopeful.”

The SFH reports that the program’s success marks a significant step towards empowering adolescent girls with the knowledge and skills necessary for their health and economic well-being. The organization plans to build on this momentum, continuing to work towards improving the health and development of Nigerian youth.
