“It’s Miracle,” Says Chiamaka Nnadozie on Ballon d’Or Nomination

Nigerian international goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has called her groundbreaking nomination for the 2025 Women’s Ballon d’Or a “miracle.”

The ceremony is scheduled for September 22 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

The 24-year-old, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, shared her feelings in a recent interview, saying the recognition is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

Nnadozie’s nomination is historic, as she is the first African goalkeeper to be included on the prestigious shortlist.

This milestone follows a stellar year where she excelled for both her club and country.

Before her move to the Women’s Super League this summer, Nnadozie was a key player for Paris FC, leading the team to victory in the Coupe de France Féminine.

Her exceptional performances established her as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers.

On the international stage, she was instrumental in Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Her crucial saves and leadership helped the Super Falcons secure a record-extending tenth continental title.

Her outstanding form has also earned her back-to-back CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024, further solidifying her status as one of the best goalkeepers in women’s football.

Since joining Brighton, Nnadozie has quickly made an impact, earning a clean sheet on her debut against Aston Villa.

Her performance, which included four vital saves, secured a crucial point for her new team and showcased her world-class abilities.

For Nnadozie, this nomination is more than just a personal achievement; it’s a source of inspiration for countless young athletes.

Her journey proves that perseverance, hard work, and belief in oneself can overcome obstacles and create history.
