Pioneer FCT Head of Service, Grace Adayilo, Dies

Grace Adayilo, the first Head of the Civil Service of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has died. She reportedly passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025.

Confirmation of her death was given by Anthony Odey, Special Assistant on Media to the Head of Service. In response to an inquiry from our correspondent, Odey replied in a text message, “Yes, please,” without providing further information about the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Adayilo was appointed the pioneer FCT Head of Service on October 6, 2024, by President Bola Tinubu. The appointment, which took immediate effect, made her not only the first occupant of the position but also the first woman to hold the role.

Before her elevation, she served as Permanent Secretary in the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCT Administration. She had a long career in the civil service and held several administrative positions within the territory before being appointed to the office of Head of Service.

As of the time of filing this report, neither her family nor officials of the FCT Administration had issued an official statement regarding her death.

Further details, including burial arrangements and official tributes, are expected to be released in the coming days.
