Stakeholders Collaborate to Enhance TB Services in Rivers State

In order to scale up Tuberculosis (TB) treatment services in Rivers State, stakeholders have mapped out strategies to provide more support to health centres in five local government areas of the state.

This comes as the TB Network in Rivers State paid a courtesy visit on Wednesday, August 27, to the TB units of the State Ministry of Health in Port Harcourt.

The State TB Control officer, Dr. Victor Onyiri, who commended TB Network for their supportive effort, promised to work with the team by engaging more supervisors at health facilities.

“What we will do for the LGA that we are providing support is to engage the supervisors and link you to them, like the days when health services are provided, they just go in and do screening. Luckily, we now have the PDX machine that is good for screening, and it’s able to pick results,” Dr. Onyiri said.

Coordinator, TB Network in Rivers State, Mr. Messiah Muzan, explained that the purpose of the visit was to improve TB services in the state through shared effort.

“So we are looking at upscaling the TB services and some of the health processes in Abua Odual, Oyibo, Emuoha and Ikwere LGA, that’s basically, but we have gotten his commitment that he is going to speed up actions to ensure that we have TB services in those areas”, Mr. Muzan said.

On his part, the State program officer for Tuberculosis Network, Mr. Hope Pius, further emphasised the integration of TB, Malaria and HIV services in health posts across the state.
