The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has doubled down on its commitment to education, expanding its postgraduate scholarship program from 300 to 500 beneficiaries in 2025 for the indigenes of Ogoni.

This was made known by the Project Coordinator, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey, on Wednesday, August 27, while speaking at the sensitisation workshop on the 2025 Ogoni postgraduate Student Scholarship Grant held in Port Harcourt.

He emphasised that the scholarship program would be administered with fairness, merit, and accountability and urged the youth to maintain a conducive environment to ensure the successful realisation of HYPREP’s objectives.

The Head of Sustainable Livelihood at HYPREP, Mrs. Josephine, while explaining the purpose of the sensitisation program, encouraged Ogoni indigenes to visit the HYPREP website for online registration details. She also stressed that the scholarship is exclusively for scholars who meet all the stipulated requirements.

Keynote speaker Dr. Sorbarikor Lebura likened the grant to a seed, urging recipients to nurture their academic pursuits and avoid misusing the funds.

On their parts, some applicants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, assuring HYPREP that the grants would be used for their intended purpose, which is academic advancement.

The sensitisation workshop provided a platform for applicants to gain clarity on the application process and requirements. A lively question-and-answer session ensured that all attendees left with a clear understanding of how to apply and the necessary qualifications.

This initiative is a key part of HYPREP’s commitment to the sustainable development of the Ogoni region.
