During the state visit to Brazil, President Bola Tinubu and his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, solidified several bilateral agreements, including a new direct flight route between Lagos and São Paulo.
The new route, which will be operated by Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, was hailed by Lula as a key step toward strengthening the connections between the two nations.
The agreement was a major outcome of a two-hour bilateral meeting in Brasília, where the two leaders witnessed the signing of several key agreements.
Among these was a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) signed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho. The BASA aims to enhance trade, tourism, and diplomatic relations.
Other key agreements concluded during the visit included an accord on Diplomatic Training Cooperation, signed by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, and Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira.
In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations was endorsed to strengthen dialogue on issues of mutual concern.

Another MoU was signed on cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, covering biotechnology, energy, space development, and digital transformation.
This was formalised by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, alongside Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos.
Furthermore, the Bank of Agriculture of Nigeria entered into an MoU with Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) aimed at boosting trade, investment, and collaborative agricultural initiatives.
These agreements collectively underscore a renewed effort to deepen economic and diplomatic ties between the two largest economies in Africa and South America.
