FG Appoints KWAM1 Airport Security Ambassador After Flight Ban Reduction

KWAM1

The Federal Government has appointed Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol, following his controversial conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.

The announcement was made by Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during a press briefing on Wednesday. Keyamo outlined the government’s resolutions to recent incidents of unruly behaviour at airports, including KWAM1’s clash with ValueJet staff and aviation security personnel.

The musician was accused of attempting to board a flight with a flask allegedly containing alcohol, which he later clarified was water for medical purposes due to chronic dehydration. During the altercation, KWAM1 reportedly spilled the liquid on the pilot, Captain Ranti Ogoyi, and obstructed the aircraft’s movement by walking onto the tarmac.

Initially, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) imposed a six-month flight ban and filed a criminal complaint against the singer. However, following his public apology and what Keyamo described as “publicly demonstrated penitence,” the NCAA has reduced the ban to one month and withdrawn the complaint.

“FAAN will also work with the music star with a view to engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward,” Keyamo stated.
“We take safety and security in the aviation sector very seriously, and we have decided to draw a line after these clemencies.”

The minister also revealed that ValueJet’s Captain Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, who were involved in the incident, will have their licenses restored after serving a one-month suspension and undergoing mandatory professional re-appraisal.

The appointment of KWAM1 as an aviation ambassador has sparked mixed reactions. While some view it as a reconciliatory gesture aimed at promoting better conduct in aviation spaces, others have criticized it as rewarding misconduct, especially in light of the contrasting treatment of Comfort Emmanson, the female passenger recently remanded for assaulting Ibom Air crew.

The Ministry of Aviation also announced plans to hold a sector-wide retreat next week to retrain security personnel and airline staff on de-escalation techniques and passenger engagement protocols.
