RISEC

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been advised to do a system overhaul and revalidate its apparatus to ensure that the forthcoming election is devoid of mistakes recorded in previous elections.

A Public Affairs analyst, Dr. Emmanuel Osilem, who gave the advice while speaking with our correspondent, said INEC must exercise its status as an independent body and refuse all forms of manipulation, irrespective of whoever appointed officials of the Commission.

Dr. Osilem, who dismissed insinuations that officials of the electoral body will always dance to the tune of those who appointed them, said INEC as an independent body, must be concern with conducting elections that will be fair to everyone.

“The extent to which INEC is actually independent will craft the electoral process and will inform the integrity of the electoral process, the persons or officials of INEC must be appointed by government” Osilem said.

While urging INEC to be deliberate in addressing issues that affected the credibility of previous elections, Dr. Osilem emphasized that if intentional mistakes are addressed by the electoral body, credible elections can be achieved.

The Public Affairs analyst, who described as embarrassing that courts should be deciding the outcomes of elections, charged INEC to conduct elections that will reflect the wishes of the people.
