New WAFCON Trophy to be Unveiled as Morocco 2024 Nears Kick-off

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) is ready to introduce a new trophy for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

CAF said the move signifies a major step in its commitment to advancing women’s football across the continent, ahead of the 2024 tournament in Morocco, scheduled to kick off on 5 July.

The reveal of the redesigned championship prize is scheduled for July 2, just days before the competition commences.

The launch event will take place in Morocco, the host nation for this year’s edition, and will be conducted in partnership with CAF’s official sponsors.

CAF stated that the refreshed trophy is integral to President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s broader strategy for the women’s game in Africa, a vision grounded in fostering expansion, attracting investment, and ensuring greater recognition.

Enthusiasts will have their first glimpse of the trophy through CAF’s digital channels on Wednesday afternoon, preceding a formal “Trophy Event’ later that evening, which will convene significant stakeholders and sponsors.

The stage is now prepared for what is expected to be an exciting tournament, with the opening match featuring host nation Morocco against Zambia in Group A at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

CAF has indicated that comprehensive details and the artistic inspiration behind the new WAFCON trophy will be disclosed on the launch day.
