Presidency Dismisses Reports of Akume’s Replacement as SGF

The Presidency has refuted circulating claims that George Akume has been replaced as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Akume, a former Minister of Special Duties as SGF.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Saturday night, the Presidency clarified that Akume’s status remains unchanged.

The Presidency emphasised that Tinubu, currently on an official visit to Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

The Presidency described the information regarding Akume’s purported replacement as entirely ‘untrue’ and attributed its fabrication to ‘agents of mischief.’

The Presidency urged all Nigerians to disregard the widespread ‘fake news’ concerning the SGF’s position, reassuring the public that no such change has occurred.
