Why I Signed for Real Madrid – Ex-Liverpool Star Alexander-Arnold

Former Liverpool right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, revealed during his official unveiling as a Real Madrid player on Thursday that he joined the Spanish giants because they have always been his dream club. The 26-year-old stated that it was never a question of where he would go—it had always been Madrid.

The England international, who surprised many at the presentation by speaking fluent Spanish, added that he knew for a long time that Madrid would be the only club he would ever leave Liverpool for. Known for his pinpoint long passes in the Premier League, Trent described signing for Madrid as a dream come true, noting that opportunities like this do not come around every day.

“Liverpool helped me achieve all my dreams. I’ll forever be in debt. I spent 20 years there and enjoyed every minute. I just thought it was the right time to move. I grew up watching this club winning 3 Champions Leagues in a row.” “I’m very excited. I’ve waited for this day for a long time. It’s a dream come true but there’s a lot of hard work to do. I remember David Beckham playing here, it was special.

I saw Cristiano and the way he was welcomed. He was the best player in the world at the time. It was a statement in my mind”, Trent said. According to him, he was fortunate enough to have played for the biggest club in England, and now for the biggest club in Spain.

“Both have dominated and won the league. It’s an honour to represent them. They have a lot of similarities. My kit name being only ‘Trent’? It’s an easy explanation; the 3-name situation is very confusing to people. People call me Arnold, Alex, and Trent. I thought let’s make it simple. Just Trent.”

Trent, who signed a six-year contract with the Spanish club, described Liverpool’s farewell as the perfect send-off. He also revealed that the club’s owners assured him he would always be welcome to return at any time.

The Reds agreed to let him join Madrid early in a deal worth £10 million, paving the way for his debut next Wednesday at the Club World Cup in the United States, where Alonso’s side will face Al Hilal in their opening group match.
