It was indeed a memorable night for the English club, whose domestic campaign has been riddled with challenges and frustrations due to inconsistency, leaving them languishing in 13th place for a prolonged period and significantly reducing their chances of qualifying for any European competition.

Claiming the UEFA Europa League now appears to be their best chance at this stage, as the financial impact of failing to qualify for Europe next season would be harmful to the club’s growth.

Nevertheless, with Spanish team Athletic Bilbao and English competitors Tottenham Hotspur still in the tournament, the road ahead may not be easy for the English giants, although history in football suggests that anything can happen. In other matches, Norwegian side Bodo-Glimt advanced 2-3 on penalties after the aggregate score reached 3-3.

Tottenham Hotspur held onto a 1-0 lead in the second half against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, progressing with a 1-2 aggregate score, while Athletic Bilbao triumphed over Rangers with a 2-0 victory in Spain, concluding the tie with a 2-0 aggregate.
