Rivers Residents Urged to Access Free Legal Assistance

The Rivers State Office of the Public Defender has called on residents to take advantage of free legal services provided by the state’s Ministry of Justice.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Director of the office, Evelyn Membere-Asimiea, emphasized that every resident is entitled to a public defender at no cost. She assured that there are no restrictions on the types of cases the office can handle and encouraged victims of rights violations to seek legal support.

Membere-Asimiea also highlighted the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, which is in force in the state, urging individuals to report cases of abuse and infringement. She noted that public defenders facilitate swift justice by ensuring legal matters reach the right authorities without unnecessary delays.
