Tensions Escalate as Diobu Cult Peace Talks Collapse

Efforts to broker peace between two rival factions of the Deebam cult group in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt have collapsed, raising concerns over continued violence in the region.

Revelation Agents made this known on Wednesday, stating that sources familiar with the gang’s activities, a mediation meeting facilitated by senior members of the group on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, ended in failure as both factions rejected the proposed terms for reconciliation.

The breakdown of negotiations suggests that the ongoing battle for supremacy and territorial dominance may escalate further.

Reports indicate that on Saturday, 1 March 2025, a suspected cultist was gunned down by rival members on Gambia Street, Mile 2, Diobu.

In a separate incident on Monday, 3 March, another suspected cultist narrowly escaped death at School Road/Ikwerre after assailants opened fire on him but missed.

Despite an increased presence of police patrols in Diobu in recent days, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to officially comment on the rising violence or the failed peace talks.

In 2024, clashes within the Deebam cult group in the same area resulted in over six deaths.

However, the police had then announced the arrest and prosecution of more than 30 suspected cultists.

Residents remain on high alert as fears of further violence grow, with many calling for stronger security measures to curb the ongoing gang rivalry.
