Ahoada youths hail military for neutralising killers of 4 soldiers

The youths of Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State have hailed the military for ending the reign of a criminal gang responsible for the killing of four soldiers sometime last year.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu Akoh Youth Congress, Comrade Ekeakita Hector Chinem described the decimation of the criminal gang as a welcome development.

Hector said: “I want to applaud the effort of the Nigerian Army in Rivers State for its unrelenting effort in making sure that those who murdered the soldiers securing Daewoo Company were brought to book.

“I am also happy that not less than six rifles were recovered. I also want to thank the youths who volunteered to give credible intelligence that led to this successful military operation.

“I also want to tell everyone that security is everyone’s business. If you hide a criminal in your community, it will affect you. Let’s join hands to fight crime in order to enjoy a peaceful sleep.

“So, I am urging the general public to work with the security agencies to make sure credible intelligence is given. I know people may hate you for doing such work but don’t relent because you will surely have your own good reward.”

In a statement signed by the acting Deputy Director, of 6 Division Army Public Relations,
Lieutenant Colonel, Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the military said: “The gang was responsible for the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates, who were staff of Daewoo company on 12 December 2023 at Kalaogbokolo in Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA), Rivers State.

“The operation was conducted, following credible intelligence on the return of the wanted criminals to the community. Troops conducted cordon and search operations, which led to the recovery of several arms and ammunition. The recoveries include; one AK 47 riffle, one Fabrique Nationale rifle, and one Pump action gun.

“Other recoveries include two locally made rifles, three Ak 47 magazines, one FN magazine as well as three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and 13 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) amongst others.

“Additionally, two members of the criminal gang were apprehended during the operations. While exploiting the area for further discoveries, the suspects attempted to escape into the bush and were neutralized after a long pursuit.

“The 6 Division, Nigerian Army wishes to restate that no matter how long it takes, criminals who are involved in such dastard acts, will pay a heavy price for their actions.

“The general public is reassured of the Division’s commitment to safeguard lives and property. Members of the public are please enjoined to continue to provide actionable Intelligence on the activities of such criminal gangs to the security agencies.”
