As part of activities to celebrate the New Year, the Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, has extended goodwill and support to New Year babies born on January 1, 2025, and their mothers at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), and Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH).

The Rivers State Governor’s wife, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Prof Justina Jumbo, during a New Year visit to UPTH, said the gesture was to identify with the babies and their mothers, and show them love as we step into 2025.



Speaking in an interview shortly after visiting the New Year baby, Little Miss Jaja and other babies at UPTH, Lady Fubara thanked God for the safe delivery of the baby, and assured that the admp pm ppinistration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara will continue to support the vulnerable and less privileged in the society.

The wife of the Governor also visited the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) were she donated some items to the first New Year baby at the hospital, Miss Godswill Vanessa Accra-Jaja, and four others, including several other babies delivered recently.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Barrister Uchechukwu Uriri, the Rivers State First Lady said she was passionate about rendering community service by identifying with babies born on Christmas and New Year days.

She said, “I am very privileged to welcome babies born on New Year day. The Governor’s wife is pleased to sustain this gesture of celebrating special babies born on special days like the New Year.”

Earlier in his remarks, representative of the Chief Medical Director, UPTH, Prof Datonye Alasia, had thanked the wife of the Rivers State Governor for the gesture, and pledged the commitment of the hospital to render quality healthcare services in the State.

Also speaking, Chief Medical Director, RSUTH, Prof Chizindu Alikor, expressed gratitude to the wife of the Governor for the visit, stating that RSUTH has been equipped by the administration of Governor Fubara to carry out effective tertiary healthcare services in the State.

He commended the Rivers State Governor for the recent employment of 1,000 healthcare workers in the hospital, which has boosted manpower and enhanced effective service delivery in the institution.

At RSUTH, the team celebrated with 33 babies in the Post Natal Ward of the hospital with five of the babies born on New Year’s Day.

During the event, Her Excellency, distributed New Year gifts to the 33 babies in the Post Natal Wards of the hospital, just as special gifts were given to the five babies born on the special day.

In their speeches, the mothers expressed profound joy and deepest appreciation to Her Excellency and the Rivers State Government for the show of love and care to the babies.
