Super Eagles Plummet in FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have suffered a significant fall in the latest FIFA World Rankings, dropping eight places to 44th in the world.

The team also slipped to fifth position in Africa, marking a disappointing decline. Morocco remains Africa’s top-ranked nation, holding the 14th spot globally, followed by Senegal in 17th. Egypt and Algeria occupy the third and fourth positions in Africa, respectively.

What Led to the Fall?

The Super Eagles’ recent struggles in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers have contributed to their downward trajectory. A 1-1 draw against Benin Republic was followed by a shocking 2-1 home defeat to Rwanda, which significantly impacted their ranking.

Global Rankings

Argentina continues to lead the world rankings as reigning world champions, followed by France and Spain. England and Brazil complete the top five, with Portugal and the Netherlands occupying the sixth and seventh positions.

The next FIFA World Rankings will be released on December 19, 2024. As the Super Eagles aim to regain their former glory, Nigerian football fans will be eagerly awaiting the next update to see if the team can climb back up the rankings.
